LOCAL LONDIS STORE WINS NEWSAGENT OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Londis store in Attleborough, Norfolk , owned by Alan Fincham, has won newsagent of the year in the 2005 Retail Industry Awards, the “Oscars” of the industry, which celebrate the very best in UK grocery retailing.

Judges were impressed with the reputation that the Londis store has built for its first-class promotions and outstanding customer service. “Availability and prominent promotions have been key to driving magazines sales, with 15 new customers gained within the first month of restructuring the home delivery service,” says on judge.

Alan and his team received even more positive customer feedback when they delivered newspapers free of charge for a week.

And Alan and his team are well known for their community involvement.  On 1 June this year he took a lead in celebrating National Independent’s Day by dressing up as Darth Vader.  Later on this summer, Alan and his staff adorned fancy dress to take a float in the Attleborough carnival.

Judges described Alan’s store as “fantastic”, adding that it was difficult to see how the standards of merchandising and customer service could be improved.  From studying the store, judges concluded that Alan ran his business by one simple and highly effective rule – “whatever task you choose, if you are going to do it, do it properly”.

This is the third-year running that the store has reached the finals of these awards.
