LOCAL LONDIS STORE WINS OFF-LICENCE RETAILER OF THE YEAR
The Londis store at Oakdene filling station, owned by Mark Gilson, has scored a hat-trick, winning off-licence of the year for the third time in the 2005 Retail Industry Awards, the “Oscars” of the industry, which celebrate the very best in UK grocery retailing.
Judges were impressed with the level of drinks sales achieved in a forecourt operation and said good staff training had obviously made an impression on the business.
They went on to say that Mark demonstrated excellent understanding of his customers, offering product innovation and additional enhancements to a traditional service with expansion of the business onto the internet.
“This is a retailer with personality,” said one judge. “Mark and his staff are most definitely in the business of selling beers, wines and spirits and they are quite obviously passionate about it.”
Mark’s philosophy is to offer customers a wide choice. Regular tastings always create a good atmosphere in store. And Mark offers sale-or-return and free glass hire and delivery (for larger orders).
