LOCAL LONDIS WINS TRAINING INITIATIVE OF THE YEAR
The Londis store, owned by Ramesh and Nim Shingadia, has won the 2005 Retail Industry Award for training initiative of the year. These are the “Oscars” of the industry, celebrating the very best in UK grocery retailing.
Londis, Southwater saying that it is a highly successful business employing some 27 staff. The company planned to expand the business but staff turnover had risen in recent years, lowering morale and putting management under pressure.
Judges were particularly impressed with the way that they had addressed the issue by embarking on the Government’s Investors in People training initiative.
Judges were even more impressed by the fact that the store started on the programme in January 2004, completing it in August and that staff morale improved as a result.
“We’re delighted with this award, it’s a great accolade for all our staff who have worked so hard,” says Ramesh.
