Londis is the largest symbol group in the UK dedicated solely to, and championing the cause of, independent retailers.  Londis provides a natural home for progressive independent retailers who are aligned to the company’s vision and values and prepared to meet the required criteria to be a member.
WHY LONDIS?

Londis was established in 1959 by a group of progressive independent retail grocers who had the aim of establishing a fully operational delivered wholesale company owned jointly by the retailers it served.

The company has expanded by recruiting quality progressive retailers who want the advantages of an integrated symbol fascia and wholesale supply chain.

The prime objective of the company is to offer excellent marketing, purchasing and supply chain support to our retailers that will allow them to grow their business, and secure their futures.

Londis is the largest symbol group in the UK dedicated solely to the independent convenience retailer with over 2,100 stores nationally. Our current sales performance exceeds all our major competitors and shows the faith that existing and prospective retailers have in the new MBL model which has included the lowering of wholesale pricing on cigarettes, lagers, bread and milk, improving the loyalty rebate (LOD) and chilled foods’ range, significantly increased the sales support given to retailers and introduced a new communication structure that allows all retailers to communicate the issues that effect them at a local, regional and national level.

Londis wants to partner progressive retailers aligned to the company’s vision and core values (Click Here) and who are prepared to meet the required criteria to be a member.  These criteria include:

1. Having a turnover of £10,000 per week and prepared to spend at least £5,000 with Londis
2. Being prepared to invest in a ‘Genesis’ redevelopment
3. Investing in the group’s Laser EPoS system, Londis Laser
4. Participating in one of the group’s consumer leaflets’ scheme

"Since July 2004 Londis has been part of the Musgrave Group PLC, an Irish based, privately owned retail business. The Group owns a number of branches throughout the UK, Ireland and Spain dedicated to the same principle – to be the number one supporter of the Independent Retailer.

With a turnover of £2.6bn last year and serving approximately 3,400 retailers the Group continues to demonstrate the opportunity for progressive independent retailers.

Since it’s acquisition in 2004 and formal merger with Budgens stores in November 2004, Londis has demonstrated strong sales growth both at wholesale and retail level.

A key to this has been the extensive communication undertaken to understand retailers’ needs. This has been done through independent detailed customer surveys and the extensive network of newly-established national, regional and local cluster group meetings. A number of key changes to pricing, loyalty discounts and chilled ranges have been based upon this feedback resulting in significant uplifts in sales and retailer loyalty.

As the Musgrave model is based on strong relationships, there have also been significant increases in sales development, store development and training resources to support the goal of further developing retailer sales and profitability.

Standards are being improved across the brand, with all new members now having to conform to set criteria around purchase loyalty, adherence to promotions, standard of shopfit and introduction of EPoS.

Taken together, and remembering that Musgrave Budgens-Londis (MBL) has only been formed for less than a year, the pace of change and introduction of new initiatives is remarkable and are designed to meet the needs of progressive independent retailers in an increasingly competitive convenience market. MBL anticipates the pace of improvement for the Group’s retailers to accelerate further over the coming year."
